======== Newsgroups: alt.surfing Subject: The D.J.files...test send of #4 - dj&bear.4 [1/1] From: dp025@seqeb.gov.au (DAVID PRITCHARD) Date: Fri, 20 Sep 96 16:50:07 PST Any similarity between 'Bear' mentioned in any 'Files story and the author is purely 'literary licence' and in no way illlustrates factual occurrences :-) The D.J.Files #4 Late August...in the deep and distant past Brrt-brrt "Hello?" "DJ here..you goin'down tonite?" "Well I wasn't....and I've got no car anyway" D.J. didn't either. Nor a job. He'd taken public transport to the dole office...and from there to the beach..sans board. It had looked like a swell was building. Now he was back home, late afternoon and ringing Bear at work. "What about your old man's ?" "I dunno...." "But it's gonna be six foot...trust me!" "OK!" An hour or so later and they're cruising down, boards on the reclined front passenger seat. Humans one behind the other. Rustle-rustle... "Hey!,whocha doin' back there?" "Just rollin a biggie.." "Christ D..J.!!! Don't drop any in the car" "Nah, no worries mate" They rock up to Rest Bay...the tide's just coming off low. Shit, it's better than even I expected thought D.J.... "hey DJ, you were dead right!" "just trust ol' DJ, he'll never let ya down!" altho he'd prove(n) time and again that, in fact, he probably would. Often. It was already headhigh....6:30PM...it wouldn't get dark for more'n 2 hours at this time of year. SInking sun, wisps of cloud turning pink and mauve. No wind. It doesn't get like this often enough. Not here. The pair threw on their wetties and waxed up. The lineup ended up consisting of less than 20 guys...spread over a handful of peaks. With the surf picking up to easy overhead there were waves for everyone. D.J. ripped. Bear did OK. Eventually the sun faded away into Atlantic mist and the surfers straggled out in the twilight. Neither of our 2 'heroes' had any money for beer and pool, so they just shared the 'biggie' and drove back to D.J.'s. His wife made coffee and they shared another.... and ended up laughing a lot. Floyd on the stereo... Eventually Bear drifted home. Life was good eh? ,he thought. You kinda felt that way when you'd been with D.J. Quite a few times after a day with D.J. Bear had gone home with muscles aching just thru laughing. When he got home he fell asleep quite quickly, the stereo on low.... "Hey!, what's all this shit in the car?" said his old man the next morning. No worries mate, eh? thought Bear.
