The D.J.Files #41 Priorities... R&R on a long summer's evening. The guys have been hanging out, waiting for the tide to push. An impromptu game of footie; little groups chatting; people comparing stix and neoprene. And every few minutes, glancing at their section of ma ocean. There were little lines out there, but they were only knee-high. 8:00p.m.; 9:00p.m. The tide should be on the move...well it is, they can see it eating more and more sand, but still the knee-high stuff. When it switched on it all happened in a minutes. It does this some- times on this stretch of coast. A waist-high set or two, then chest-high. out come the boards and wax...shoulder-high set. Shit, let's get in quick while we can still get outside. As if on cue, a light offshore starts to brush the wave tops. Mad scramble in the car park, people running down to the sand. And right there, in full view, Ang' whispers into D.J.'s ear. "No way!! Are you mad? We can do that any time...looka-the-waves!!" There are snickers and chuckles among the group, as they catch on to what's going down beteween D.J. and Ang'. She's embarassed; he's in the 'guano'! They're like that, women (maybe women surfers are an exception?). I think they do it to 'test' the guys. And with surfers..well, I'm sorry girls, you'll be sadly disappointed, nearly every time. It should be explained in high school classes, along with the bits about safe sex and birth control. So, along with 20 or 30 other stoked-out-of-their-minds surfers, D.J. paddled out into what now were 6' faces. They had about an hour-and-a-half daylight left, and boy were they going to make the most of it!! The next day, it had dropped off and turned onshore. Only a handful came down after work. The girls had their menfolk for whatever purposes they had in mind, but of course "wimmin is fickle" as Popeye says. In response to last evening's rejection, they're "not in the mood". It's a crazy world. -- Bear
