Each swell is new, never seen before, and is in the here and now. When one is surfing he/she has to be in "present time" enough to catch the wave. The individual is experiencing swells in new units of time rolling past. This ocean swell activity emulates a healthy state of mind. If one doesn't have their attention stuck on problems or bad experiences in the past, they feel better. Therefore, being in an environment which is continually approximating an ideal state of mind makes a person feel good. The continual newness of each swell heightens a persons well being. What happens when the ocean is flat? Time becomes more static, it is not as easy to be in the here and now. When one comes to the break the next day and swells are rolling in, one is seeing an action basic to the well being of themself. One observes not only surfing opportunities, but the mechanism of present time being emulated. Enjoy, be in the here and now, and contemplate future survival. Surff
